The Iowa Learning Farms conservation webinar taking place Sep. 1 at noon will feature Catherine DeLong, water quality program manager, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. DeLong works statewide to bring people together to share resources, ideas and perspectives about water quality, and to help Iowans understand the role they can play in the future of Iowa’s water resources.
In the webinar, “Happily Ever After? Improving Edge-of-Field Practice Implementation After the Landowner Says ‘Yes’,” DeLong will highlight tools and innovative processes that have been successfully applied to implementation of wetlands, bioreactors and saturated buffers across several Midwestern states. Drawing on lessons learned throughout Iowa and surrounding states, she will offer perspectives and approaches that can simplify and streamline new edge-of-field installations.
“There are always cost and complexity concerns associated with implementing edge-of-field projects, and it is important to keep conservation professionals, farmers, contractors and even cities up-to-date and prepared to deploy these practices that are proven to make a substantial difference in nutrient reductions,” said DeLong. “The time to scale-up edge-of-field practices is now. We need all hands on deck and need all stakeholders to be empowered to take on these projects with the right tools and information that will aid success.”
Participants in Iowa Learning Farms Conservation Webinars are encouraged to ask questions of the presenters. People from all backgrounds and areas of interest are encouraged to join.
